My Little Dreams

Grooming:

Due to the cavaliers feathered ears and paws they require regular grooming in order to prevent matts and tangles from forming in their coats, left untended their coats can get so extremely matted and that isn't fun for anyone. Their coats should be brushed a few times a week, especially during the high shedding seasons, and should be trimmed roughly once a month. Their coats can be shaved to make it more manageably. we also recommend shaving them if you live in a hot climate, especially in the summer time to help keep them cooler. Cavaliers are a shedding breed but the should not shed excessively. Nails should also be trimmed regularly, especially their dew claws, to help prevent catching and it will also be much more comfortable for them to walk with trimmed nails. All puppies will already have exposure to the grooming process before they go to their new homes.
Training:
Cavaliers are sporty and very eager to please, which is why they excel in agility and obedience, and like most dogs are very food motivated, making them best fitted for a positive, force-free training method.
We suggest that ensure your pup has a very strong recall be included in training as they tend to enjoy chasing small animals, and a strong recall can help reduce the worry of them taking off after anything.
Diet and nutrition:
Cavaliers are associated with obesity, so no matter how much they pout, avoid over feeding them. They should be on an appropriately portioned diet with their age, size, and activity level all taken into account. If they tend to eat fast and seem to be looking for more, try a slow feeder before increasing their diet. Interactive toys are also great as it stimulates and makes them work for their treat.
