Cavaliers are excellent family dogs and love everyone they meet and get along quite well with other dogs and cats. Making them a good option for any family. They are a docile breed that is very affectionate which makes them good for families with kids.( We do advise that young children are supervised no matter the dogs temperament or breed for everyone's safety)
Cavaliers are good option for apartment living or a smaller house as they dont require a significant amount of space, they are also a good option for people that don't have the ability or opportunity to do lots of exercise, they are also a good fit for elderly people that cannot walk long distances as these adorable dogs only require a moderate amount of exercise every day which is about an hour total everyday but they are more than willing to exercise more if that's your thing. despite their moderate activity level they still make great lap dogs and cuddle buddies when it's time to relax.
Although these cavaliers a docile and love to be lap dogs it needs to be remembered that they are also a sporting dog and were originally bred to scare birds for hunting and still retain their original hunting instincts, we suggest that when being walked they remain on leash and should only be let off leash indoors or within a fenced parameter for their safety incase their recall fails when they start to chase something. However this athleticism accompanied with their trainability Cavaliers excel in sports like agility, rally and obedience, they can also make amazing therapy dogs with the proper training.
Cavaliers LOVE attention, especially from their people, the downside to this is that these gorgeous dogs don't like to be left alone for extended periods of time, and can get separation anxiety, for this reason they are best suited for homes where they are not alone for much more than 5 hours a day or a home where they will have a buddy( another dog or a cat) or a dog sitter is always a great compromise!!
Cavaliers come in four distinct colors/patterns: Blenheim, Tri-Color, Ruby and Black and tan. They are NOT hypoallergenic, and they do shed.
